Slade Hall, University of Vermont, Burlington, VT
In the Midnight Hour, Wild Child, Jam -> Bertha, St. Stephen Jam, Can't You Hear Me Knockin', Camel Walk, Eyes of the World -> Whipping Post -> Drums Jam
Show Notes: The setlist for this show might be incomplete, as the tapes that circulate cut during the Drums Jam. Marc Daubert made a guest appearance on percussion. These tapes often circulate as November 3, 1983 but it is believed that this is incorrect. CYHMK included a St. Stephen tease.
Notes: Aud > Cass/2 > DAT, St Stephen Jam and Drums Jam missing. Quality of recording poor

Set III: Scarlet Begonias > Eyes of the World, Whipping Post -> McGrupp and the Watchful Hosemasters -> Makisupa Policeman -> Reggae Jam, Run Like an Antelope -> The Other One
Encore: Anarchy
Show Notes: This show marked Page's debut with the band, as he guested during portions of the third set. In fact, Big Leg Emma was preceded by an announcement from Trey that "our friend Page, from Goddard, will sit in later." Bring it On Home featured "Bobby Brown" (Tim Rogers) on harmonica. McGrupp was dedicated to Fishman.

Hunt's, Burlington, VT
Harry Hood, Dog Gone Dog -> Possum, Slave to the Traffic Light, Sneakin' Sally Through the Alley, I Wish, Revival, Alumni Blues, Prep School Hippie, Skippy the Wondermouse, Jam
Show Notes: This is the first widely-circulated show with Harry Hood. Also, though they are still sometimes soundchecked or teased, this show contains the only known versions of I Wish and Revival. Slave was dedicated to Brickle. Trey's humorous comments about being back on Planet Earth were in reference to the events at Goddard on October 26.

INCOMPLETE: SET III ONLY
Saturday, November 23, 1985
Goddard College, Plainfield, VT
Set I: Wild Thing
Set III: Mike's Song -> Whipping Post Jam -> Run Like an Antelope -> Dave's Energy Guide
Show Notes: The Whipping Post Jam contained jams reminiscent of The Grateful Dead's The Other One and Dark Star, as well as Norwegian Wood teases from Mike and a jam reminiscent of the early intro to Harry Hood. The complete lists for Sets I and II are not known, although Mike has referenced the first set Wild Thing in interviews and in The Phish Book. This list for Set III may be incomplete, as the tapes that circulate fade in and out at points.
notes: Set III (likely incomplete, possible SBD?)

Slave to the Traffic Light, Mike's Song > Dave's Energy Guide, You Enjoy Myself, Alumni Blues, Prep School Hippie, Run Like an Antelope
Show Notes: Jeff made use of a slide guitar during Antelope. The unnamed fiddle player is most likely Russ Flanagan. Some tapes erroneously note that this show was a double-bill with The Joneses. This show contained the first known version of You Enjoy Myself.
notes: Unknown AUD. Sound quality poor in certain parts of show, possibly out of tune copy

Set II: Help on the Way > Slipknot! > AC/DC Bag, McGrupp and the Watchful Hosemasters > Alumni Blues > Dear Mrs. Reagan
Encore: Not Fade Away
Show Notes: The Pendulum, which was a recital of revolutionary poetry, featured special guest Zenzile. For this show, Phish and The Joneses switched off for 45 minute sets. The two bands got together to jam out the encore. This show contained the first known versions of Icculus and AC/DC Bag. McGrupp was spoken in a Dylan-esque fashion, in keeping with Trey's jokes about Phish being the "Bob Dylan Band."

Set III: Roll Like a Cantaloupe, Sanity, Anarchy
Encore: Clod
Show Notes: Before YEM, Page played cocktail-style jazz, including snippets of Play Misty and Brother Can You Spare a Dime, while Trey tuned up. This show was Paul Languedoc's first as soundman. The second set featured some strong early jamming, especially during the segue from Quinn into Mike's. The third set listing is incomplete; tapes that circulate have cuts before Cantaloupe. The Clod encore began with an impromptu kazoo solo from Mike. This show contained the first known versions of many Phish songs, including Hydrogen, Lushington, Golgi, Shaggy Dog, Wilson, Cantaloupe, Sanity, and Clod.

Set II: Freebird, Happy Birthday > Harry Hood, Tell Me Something Good -> Possum, Freeworld, Wilson
Encore: Slave to the Traffic Light
Show Notes: Freeworld was sung by an audience member. Happy Birthday was sung to Sue and Debra and was a long, reggafied version. This version of Freebird was an actual attempt at the song and not an a cappella version, but it was performed quite mockingly and not in its entirety. It did, however, feature Ninja Mike on vocals. Also, Tell Me Something Good featured a female lead vocalist.

Show Notes: Highlights included a great segue from Skin it Back into Cities, a long, intricate jam at the beginning of McGrupp, and the Melt the Guns / DEG combo. Some debate whether Fuck Your Face (the only known live version) is from this show, due to tape cuts before the song. It may be filler from another date but circulates on all known copies of this tape.

Encore: Golgi Apparatus, Corrine Corrina, Letter to Jimmy Page
Show Notes: This show included some funny stage banter, including Trey's announcement after TMWSIY: "That was called 'The Man Who Stepped Into Yesterday...and I'm going to get my head sharpened." Set III: Big Black Furry Creature from Mars, McGrupp and the Watchful Hosemasters -> Stir it Up Jam -> Makisupa Policeman Jam -> David Bowie Jam > Sanity, Swing Low (Sweet Chariot)
Show Notes: This show, one of the most commonly circulated from this era, is mislabeled on many tapes as 8/27/87. Teases of other songs were everywhere, including La Bamba lyrics in Low Rider and HYHU teases during Mike's Song and before McGrupp. Also, before Mike's, Trey teased I've Got Spurs That Jingle Jangle Jingle. Sections of Fluff's Travels were also teased before McGrupp. The third set was heavy on jamming and light on lyrics. Harpua was played by request and was re-started after the opening lyric, which was repeated. The intro to Sparks was extended while Fishman relieved himself. Trey delivered some freestyle reggae-rapping before and during the Makisupa Jam that some fans have labeled the "Mouse House Rap." This show contained the first known BBFCFM.

Set I: The Chicken, Funky Bitch, Sneakin' Sally Through the Alley, Take the 'A' Train, You Enjoy Myself -> Wilson, Golgi Apparatus, Slave to the Traffic Light, Flat Fee, Corrine Corrina, The Lizards, David Bowie
Set II: Fluffhead, Dinner and a Movie, Harry Hood, The Ballad of Curtis Loew, Harpua, AC/DC Bag > Alumni Blues > Run Like an Antelope
Show Notes: This show features the only known performance of The Chicken. Sneakin' Sally and Curtis Loew featured Bobby Brown on harmonica. Bowie began with a tease medley that included Timber, Sunshine of Your Love, Whipping Post, and several others. There was a vocal jam in Sneakin' Sally, but not in YEM. Trey spat out the names "Marco Esquandolas... Poster Nutbag...Moses Heaps...Moses DeWitt" during Antelope. Dinner and a Movie was dedicated to "our good friend Suzannah." The Lizards was delayed, as Trey cut on Fishman for losing his drumsticks during the gig; Lizards subsequently included an I Dream Of Jeannie tease. Some tapes that circulate are mislabeled "The Baso Lounge."

Set II: Jump Monk, McGrupp and the Watchful Hosemasters, The Lizards, Tela, Wilson, AC/DC Bag, Colonel Forbin's Ascent > The Famous Mockingbird, The Sloth, Possum, Run Like an Antelope
Show Notes: This was the first known live Gamehendge, complete with narration. The date is incorrect, though the correct date is not known. Actually, the members of Phish were, by accounts, at a Frank Zappa concert on the evening of March 12, 1988. Chronologically, the show contained the first known version of Tela and Forbin's, though the actual date of this show might be after their separate debuts (see May 21, 1988, where Trey calls Tela a debut).

Set II: I Didn't Know, Golgi Apparatus, The Lizards, Fee, Shaggy Dog, Big Black Furry Creature from Mars, You Enjoy Myself, Suzy Greenberg, Ya Mar, AC/DC Bag -> Possum, The Ballad of Curtis Loew, David Bowie
Show Notes: This show was part of UVM's Earth Day Festival. If you are a stage banter fan, seek out this show for Trey's announcements after Fire as someone requested "Page's new love song." Trey announced that this requested song is actually called Tela, and announced the future debut of several songs, including "The Tires" (a.k.a. Contact), "The Four-Track Song" (a.k.a. Poor Heart) and "Marijuana Hot Chocolate," for which Mike gave a preview of the bass line.

Show Notes: Fire was dedicated to Bobby Brown; JJLC subsequently featured Bobby on harmonica. JJLC also featured an appearance by three year-old Cameron McKinney, whom Trey announced was "playing guitar." Halley's Comet and I Didn't Know featured Richard Wright adding additional vocals; he also played drums on I Didn't Know. After Light Up, Trey introduced the crowd to Marley and sang to her both before and during YEM. BBFCFM was dedicated to Donald Fagen and Walter Becker of the band Steely Dan. Take the 'A' Train, which was preceded by HYHU teases, featured Carl Boyle on saxophone.

Before YEM Trey declines a request from an audience member, "del," and notes that: "Last night was Del request night because you graduated... if you get a Masters we'll do another request for you." Set III: I Know A Little > Mike's Song, Corrina, Rocky Top, McGrupp And The Watchful Hosemasters
Encore: Jesus Just Left Chicago
Show Notes: By request, extensive teasing of Iron Man preceded La Grange. The YEM vocal jam was based on the word "down" and contained teases of When The Levee Breaks. BBFCFM contained teases of the Flinstones theme and Mary Had A Little Lamb. This show is full of stage banter throughout, focused on the Dance Contest that took place during BBFCFM and Swing Low, "Art Funk" and "Foul, Reek and Fecal." "Spunky Billington" (Ninja Mike) & Magoo from Ninja Custodian won the seemingly rigged dance contest and received the grand prize of Phish T-Shirts and a $20 bill. Set I: Divided Sky, You Enjoy Myself -> Slave to the Traffic Light, Foam, Possum, Colonel Forbin's Ascent > The Famous Mockingbird > David Bowie
Set II: Mike's Song > I Am Hydrogen > Weekapaug Groove, Mr. P.C., Fee, Bold as Love, The Lizards, Whipping Post
Show Notes: Mr. P.C., which included a "Spiderman" tease, featured Carl Gerhard on horns. The finale also featured Gerhard and Russ Remington. Some tapes circulate with Timber in the second set and an encore including Peaches, Funky Bitch, and Donna Lee; this is actually filler from the October 29, 1988 show.
notes:
INCOMPLETE - Set I only SBD > Cass > Cass (XLII) > Goldwave 44k (via Tascam 202 MK III) > mkw (shn). Divided start cut

Set I: I Didn't Know, Golgi Apparatus, David Bowie, The Lizards, Foam, Fee, Mike's Song > I Am Hydrogen > Weekapaug Groove, Wilson, Colonel Forbin's Ascent > The Famous Mockingbird
Set II: Alumni Blues, You Enjoy Myself, Contact, The Sloth, AC/DC Bag -> Possum, Good Times Bad Times
Encore: Run Like an Antelope
Show Notes: AC/DC Bag was very slow and featured a hot segue into Possum. This version of Contact was highly amusing, as it was performed quite mockingly. This show was a benefit for NORML.

Burial albums
Contained in this post are two albums from the mysterious Hyperdub artist known simply as Burial.
His self titled debut album made many high profile best of the year lists in 2006 with it's detached yet deeply involving sounds.
His second album, Untrue, was released right near the end of 2007 and once again was critically hailed.
